Your space to talk.

Counselling with James in Sissinghurst, Kent. Simple, human, no jargon.
I offer a calm, confidential space to talk and be heard. I work with adults around life transitions, relationships, loss, identity, and those moments where things feel heavy but hard to explain. Sessions are offered in person and online.
Stuff you might be carrying
You don't have to do it on your own

Low mood
When getting out of bed feels like climbing a mountain.
Anxiety
When your chest is tight, your head won’t stop, and you’re tired of holding it together.
Grief & loss
When someone’s gone and it feels like the ground’s shifted under you.
Relationships
When the people you love the most are also the hardest to reach.
How it works
It’s not complicated. Promise.
You book a chat. We meet. We talk. We keep going if it feels useful. And when it’s time, we end well. That’s it. No clipboard. No psychobabble. Just four simple steps.
Book a chat
Pick a slot. We’ll talk for twenty minutes and see if this feels right.
First session
Fifty minutes, online or in Sissinghurst. Nothing formal. Just you talking, me listening.
Keep going
Most people go weekly. We’ll check in after a handful of sessions to see what’s helping.
Ending well
When it’s time to finish, we’ll plan the ending together. No sudden drop-off. No loose ends.
About James
It's easier to open up when you know a little about the person on the other side.
I’m James Hurst, a psychotherapeutic counsellor who works in a relational and pluralistic way. I support people when life feels heavy, confusing, or stuck, paying attention to more than just words. How you arrive, how you breathe, and how comfortable you feel taking up space all matter. I work honestly and without judgement, drawing on theory, intuition, and the body. I’m a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society, and I believe therapy should be accessible.
Client Experiences
What it's been like for others
I didn’t know what I wanted to say, but I left feeling lighter. That was new for me | A.
James doesn’t tell you what to do. He gives you space to actually hear yourself, which I hadn’t done in years. | K.
I was nervous, but it felt steady and safe from the first session. | J.
I didn’t realise how much I was holding in until I said it out loud. It was a relief.
